The German Supply Chain Act: Environmental Obligations

  • Yordas Group Lancaster Environment Centre LA1 4YQ United Kingdom (map)

The German Parliament adopted a new law (Federal Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains) protecting human rights and the environment in supply chains on 11 June 2021. The new Due Diligence Act is also known as the “Supply Chain Act”. This legislation is based on the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGP) for Business and Human Rights which have provided a voluntary set of standards for human rights due diligence. The Act imposes a binding obligation on companies to establish, implement and update due diligence procedures to improve compliance with specified core human rights and environmental protection in supply chains.

The German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act will enter into force with effect as of 1 January 2023. The timeline allows for a transitional period, to allow companies to adapt their operations to the new set of rules.
This webinar will cover the environmental obligations of the Supply Chain Act, and what companies need to do to comply. Some examples of the affected sectors are manufacturing, construction, textiles and clothing, mining, oil and gas and financial services (banks, asset managers and insurers).
