6 Authorisations granted for 4 substances

On 8-15 December 2023, the European Commission granted 6 Authorisations for the following substances:

  1. Trichloroethylene (TCE)

  2. Chromium trioxide

  3. Sodium dichromate

  4. 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetra methylbutyl)phenol, ethoxylated (4-tert-OPnEO)

The Authorisations are held by 5 companies and concern 6 Authorised uses:

  1. Authorisation number REACH/23/30/0 is held by Merckle GmbH, and approves the industrial use of 4-tert-OPnEO as an emulsifier in a silicone oil emulsion for siliconisation of pre-filled syringes in a medicinal product.

  2. Authorisation number REACH/23/33/0 is held by U.S. Steel Kosice s.r.o., and approves the use of Chromium trioxide for passivation of electrolytic tinplate.

  3. Authorisation number REACH/23/33/1 is held by U.S. Steel Kosice s.r.o., and approves the use of Sodium dichromate for passivation of electrolytic tinplate.

  4. Authorisation number REACH/23/36/0/R1 is held by DOMO Caproleuna GmbH, and approves the use of Trichloroethylene as extraction solvent for the purification of caprolactam from caprolactam oil.

  5. Authorisation number REACH/23/37/0/R1 is held by Roquette Frères, and approves the use of Trichloroethylene as a processing aid in the biotransformation of starch to obtain betacyclodextrin.

  6. Authorisation number REACH/23/38/0/R1 is held by Microporous GmbH, and approves the use of Trichloroethylene as extraction solvent in the manufacture of polyethylene separators for lead-acid batteries.
