5 Authorisations granted for Chromium trioxide

On 11 April 2023, the European Commission granted 5 Authorisations for the following substance:

1. Chromium trioxide

The Authorisations are held by 3 companies and concern 4 Authorised uses:

1. Authorisation number REACH/23/10/0 is held by Viega GmbH & Co. KG, and approves the use of Chromium trioxide in electroplating of different types of substrates to achieve functional surfaces with high durability and a bright silvery appearance for sanitary applications.

2. Authorisation number REACH/23/10/1 is held by Viega GmbH & Co. KG, and approves the use of Chromium trioxide in etching of plastics as pre-treatment step for electroplating processes for sanitary applications.

3. Authorisation numbers REACH/23/11/0 and REACH/23/11/1 are held by Oras Oy and Oras Olesno Sp. z o.o respectively, and approve the use of Chromium trioxide in electroplating of metal and plastic substrates to achieve functional surfaces for sanitary applications.

4. Authorisation number REACH/23/11/2 is held by Oras Oy, and approves the use of Chromium trioxide in pre-treatment (‘etching’) of plastic substrates for electroplating processes in sanitary applications.
