13 applications for Authorisation consultations launched

On 14 February 2024, ECHA launched an 8 week public consultation for 13 applications for Authorisation for the following substances:

  1. Chromium trioxide

    - Use as a surface hardener (functional chrome plating) in the manufacture of helicopter transmissions and the maintenance of helicopters

    - Surface treatment (as corrosion inhibitor, no connection with functional chrome plating) in the manufacture of helicopter transmissions and the maintenance of helicopters

    - Industrial use of chromium trioxide for the treatment of copper foil used in the manufacture of printed circuit board

    - Treatment of components used in industrial gas turbines and associated components using slurry coating products containing chromium trioxide to enhance corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, high temperature oxidation resistance, adhesion to components which produce a smooth finish and enhance the technical performance of turbines

  2. Sodium dichromate

    - Surface treatment of metals (such as aluminium, steel, zinc, magnesium, titanium, alloys), composites and sealings of anodic films, in the production of transmissions for helicopters and in maintenance of helicopters

    - Use of SDC in formulation of mixtures intended for supply for authorised uses

  3. Potassium dichromate

    - Industrial use of potassium dichromate-based mixtures during the step of final etching of CZT layers during the production of opto-electronic components gathering a readout and an infrared detecting circuit with the MCT technology

  4. Arsenic acid

    - Industrial use of arsenic acid for the treatment of copper foil used in the manufacture of printed circuit board

  5. 2-ethylhexyl 10-ethyl-4,4-dioctyl-7-oxo-8-oxa-3,5-dithia-4-stannatetradecanoate

    - Formulation of liquid mixtures containing DOTE

    - Formulation of PVC dry mixtures (granules and pellets) containing DOTE

    - Industrial manufacture of PVC articles through extrusion, injection, calendering and coating using mixtures containing DOTE as stabilizer

  6. Tetraethyllead

    - Blending of TEL in Avgas formulations

    - Fuel formulation with added tetraethyl lead

Information concerning exposure scenarios, possible alternatives identified by the applicants, together with socio-economic information, is available on ECHA’s website. The deadline for submitting comments is 10 April 2024.
