Challenges and misconceptions of biodegradable plastics

Plastics are used widely in many products and applications. Although there are several positive uses for plastics, there are concerns associated with the sustainability of certain types of plastics. In this webinar, we will first provide an overview of the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive. We will then review different types of degradable plastics and discuss degradation scenarios in various environments, including industrial composting facilities, home composting and marine environment. Finally, we will discuss how changes can be made through the implementation of circular economy principles, increased consumer awareness and harmonisation of definitions.
