Benzalkonium Chloride: BPR Status and Product Authorisation

  • Yordas Group Lancaster Environment Centre LA1 4YQ United Kingdom (map)

Benzalkonium chloride (BKC or BAC) is a well-established active substance which has been used in biocidal formulations for several decades. In the webinar, the chemistry and biocidal activity of BKC are briefly discussed in addition to the current regulatory status under the biocidal products regulation (BPR). BKC has been approved for PT3 and 4 in the EU and has been given a positive BPC opinion during the Biocidal product committee meeting in December 2021 for PT1 and 2. Companies selling such products in Europe need to take appropriate action to ensure continuity on the market in the EU. This webinar will give you an overview of the steps required for product authorisation.

The session will cover

  • An overview of the chemistry and biocidal activity

  • The current regulatory status of BKC under BPR

  • Roadmap to product authorisation

The session will benefit

  • Anyone who works for a company that imports/manufactures/formulates a biocidal product or biocidal product containing BKC as an active substance.

  • Anyone with an interest in marketing such products in the EU or UK

  • Anyone interested in the steps necessary for biocidal product authorisation.
