Hayley Lewis, Managing Regulatory Consultant at Yordas Group

What do you do at Yordas?

At Yordas, I am a Managing Regulatory Consultant specialising in Biocides and Product Services. I collaborate with clients to discuss their regulatory needs, propose strategies for compliance, and project manage the delivery and implementation of required applications and reviews, ensuring that the companies we work with remain globally compliant with marketing requirements.

This includes supporting clients in marketing cosmetic products, biocidal products, veterinary products, OSPAR products, and more. Our services range from scoping assessments to determine requirements, costs, and timelines—enabling clients to make informed decisions—through to the commissioning of required testing and the preparation and submission of approval applications worldwide.

How does your current role connect with your background?

During my time in the speciality chemicals industry, I developed a keen interest in the regulatory aspects of my roles, particularly those I encountered in research and development and quality management. My responsibilities included chemical and quality compliance, as well as CLP and ISO standards.

I also enjoyed problem-solving across various areas, which led me to achieve my Six Sigma Green Belt qualification. With my background and interests, I decided to combine my technical and analytical skills with a customer-facing role, focusing on regulatory compliance.

At Yordas, we really focus on the clients needs and deliver to a high standard.

What have you learned at Yordas?

Yordas loves to collaborate and come up with tailored solutions. At Yordas, we really focus on the clients needs and deliver to a high standard. Yordas’ expertise extends far beyond expectations, offering services ranging from CLP and regulatory monitoring to biocide and global notifications, scientific support, and data-driven solutions.

How did you get started with Yordas?

I started with Yordas in January 2021. This was the start of Brexit and the changes to come with GB BPR. I was very involved with interpreting the changes to come and completing the required resubmission of applications and data necessary in order for clients to fulfil their requirements and continue to supply in Great Britain.

I love to try to simplify the regulatory complexities of biocide requirements to help companies.

Who/what inspired you to pursue a career in science?

I always enjoyed chemistry and had great science teachers. I decided to pursue a degree in chemistry but wanted to have some career experience to ensure it was for me. Therefore, as well as practicals, I did a year in industry, and after graduating, decided to start my career as a chemist. However, my grandad was diagnosed with dementia and it led me to take a real interest in the cellular aspects of chemicals and signalling pathways. I decided to apply for a Wellcome Trust funded PhD, and was successful. My science interests continued from that point.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

I love to bake with my daughter, listen to reggae and visit theme parks!

What do you enjoy most with training?

Meeting new people with different backgrounds and reasons to need assistance with their product portfolios. I love to try to simplify the regulatory complexities of biocide requirements to help companies ensure their compliance and make the attendees more comfortable with understanding their obligations.
