24 Authorisations granted for 4 substances

On 15 November 2023, the European Commission granted 24 Authorisations for the following substances:

  1. Chromium trioxide

  2. 2,2'-dichloro–4,4’-methylenedianiline (MOCA)

  3. 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetra methylbutyl)phenol, ethoxylated (4-tert-OPnEO)

  4. 4-Nonylphenol, branched and linear, ethoxylated (4-NPnEO)

The Authorisations are held by 20 companies and concern 10 Authorised uses:

  1. Authorisation numbers REACH/23/21/0 and REACH/23/21/1 are held by Ideal Standard Vidima AD and Ideal Standard Produktions-GmbH respectively, and approve the use of Chromium trioxide in electroplating of different types of substrates to achieve functional surfaces with high durability and a bright or matt silvery appearance for sanitary applications.

  2. Authorisation number REACH/23/21/2 is held by Ideal Standard Vidima AD, and approves the use of Chromium trioxide in etching of plastics as a pre-treatment step for electroplating processes for sanitary applications.

  3. Authorisation number REACH/23/22/0 is held by Dornbracht AG & Co. KG, and approves the use of Chromium trioxide in functional chrome plating with decorative character for sanitary applications.

  4. Authorisation number REACH/23/27/0 is held by Limburgse Urethane Castings NV, and approves the industrial use of MOCA in the manufacture of high-performance polyurethanes specifically for custom-made rollers with high reliability requirements for steel and aluminium sectors.

  5. Authorisation number REACH/23/27/1 is held by Limburgse Urethane Castings NV, and approves the industrial use of MOCA in the manufacture of high-performance polyurethanes specifically for heavy-duty rollers, tensioner pads and spring blocks with high reliability requirements for offshore energy and renewables sectors.

  6. Authorisation numbers REACH/23/28/0, REACH/23/28/1, REACH/23/28/2, REACH/23/28/3, REACH/23/28/4, REACH/23/28/5, REACH/23/28/6, REACH/23/28/7, REACH/23/28/8, REACH/23/28/9, REACH/23/28/10, and REACH/23/28/11 are held by Courbis Synthèse, Annovi S.r.l, Dansk Elastomer A/S, Durlast S.r.l, Pieffe S.r.l, Policart S.r.l, R.B.M. Italia S.r.l, Tecno-Caucho S.A, Tegea S.r.l, Optibelt Urethane Belting Ltd, Productos Salinas S.A, and V.M. S.p.a respectively, and approve the industrial use of MOCA in the manufacture of hot cast polyurethane products.

  7. Authorisation number REACH/23/29/0 is held by RSI ChemRep Europe Ltd, only representative of OraSure Technologies Inc, and approves the use of 4-tert-OPnEO as a surfactant in in-vitro diagnostic device developer solution for the diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis C Virus.

  8. Authorisation numbers REACH/23/32/0 and REACH/23/32/1 are held by Phadia GmbH and Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics UAB respectively, and approve the use of 4-tert-OPnEO as components of buffer solutions.

  9. Authorisation number REACH/23/32/2 is held by Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics UAB, and approves the use of 4-NPnEO as components of buffer solutions.

  10. Authorisation numbers REACH/23/32/3 and REACH/23/32/4 are held by Phadia GmbH and Brahms GmbH respectively, and approve the use of 4-tert-OPnEO in coating thyroid stimulating hormone receptor onto articles used as components of in vitro diagnostic reagent systems.
